HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR RECREATIONAL BASKETBALL?

Online registration – CLICK HERE

Below are some helpful tips on using our registration site:

 (1) After selecting the “Register” button, please select the “Member Login” tab under the LMVSC logo.

 (2) When creating a member login for the first time, be sure that your password contains an Upper Case letter, a lower case letter, a number and a special character. Please be sure that your password is eight characters in length.

 (3) Continue following the instructions on registering yourself and your children into the registration system.

 (4)  You will be able to pay by check, credit card or electronic check.  If you are applying or a scholarship, please indicate that you are paying by check (Pay Offline: Check payment option).  If applying for financial aid, please forward all necessary documents to Jessie Gore at jgoreopsdirector@lmvsc.org.  She will adjust your balance and you will then be able to pay the reduced fee online.

Should you have any questions about this or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to Jessie Gore, jgoreopsdirector@lmvsc.org.

ARE TRAVEL and AAU PLAYERS PERMITTED TO REGISTER FOR REC BASKETBALL?

Yes.  However, no team can have more than one travel/AAU player.  Since some AAU teams play year-round and others only play in the spring with tryouts occurring at the end of the winter season, we will evaluate AAU players on a case-by-case basis.  If you are registering a player who is playing travel basketball or is participating with an AAU program, you MUST be sure to answer the travel basketball and AAU questions accurately.  If we determine that a team has more than one travel/AAU basketball player, the player who failed to answer the travel/AAU basketball questions accurately will be removed from the team.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER EARLY?

Yes. Since we prioritize registrations based on date-of-registration, registering early provides a better chance for placement with schoolmates and friends.

DOES LMVSC OFFER FINANCIAL AID?

We do not have a formal scholarship program in the summer, however if your player’s ability to play is affected by your financial situation, please contact Jessie Gore at jgoreopsdirector@lmvsc.org.

During our winter season, we do have a Financial Aid program.  In order to qualify for the Financial Aid discount, you must send in a copy of either the FCPS Free or Reduced Lunch Letter or a Medicaid Card – both items must have your child’s name on it. These items are good for an entire school year and can either be mailed to our club’s mailing address (P.O. Box 10202, Alexandria, VA 22310) or a scanned copy can be sent to our Club’s Administrator, Jessie Gore, at jgoreopsdirector@lmvsc.org.

Players approved for Financial Aid shall pay a reduced registration fee of:

WHICH DIVISIONS ARE CO-ED?

Our 1st and 2nd grade divisions are co-ed.  In the summer recreation season, if we do not get enough registrations in a particular division, we reserve the right to combine the boys and girls divisions in the older age groups.

HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE TO START PLAYING BASKETBALL?

For LMVSC’s youngest division, Mini Dribblers, your child must be 5 years old on or prior to the start of the season.  There is no Mini Dribblers in the summer season.

If your player completed a Mini Dribblers in a previous season and is in kindergarten, your player may be eligible to play in the 1st grade division.  Please contact Annemarie McGavin at mcgavindob@lmvsc.org to request this option.

ARE CHILDREN PLACED ON A TEAM BASED ON THEIR AGE OR GRADE?

Players are placed on teams based on grade for 1st grade through 12th.  Players who are older (e.g., have been held back in school one or more years) may, with prior approval from the league, play in the division appropriate for their age.  Such requests must be made separately in writing by e-mail (mcgavindob@lmvsc.org) or letter (LMVSC, P.O. Box 10202, Alexandria, VA 22310).  No other exceptions will be made.

SPECIAL REQUEST - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

You are permitted to request a classmate or a neighborhood friend to be placed on the same team as your child . You may also request a particular coach if that coach is in your neighborhood or his/her child attends the same school as your child. Although all requests are taken into consideration, our club cannot guarantee that they will be honored.  Requests are prioritized on the basis of date-of-registration, so please register early to increase your player’s chances to play with a particular coach or teammate.

WHAT IF MY CHILD ATTENDS A DIFFERENT SCHOOL?

If your child attends a private school or a special program at a public school that is not the closest one, simply indicate the local elementary school or private school you want us to use for placement.

HOW DO I VERIFY THAT MY CHILD IS REGISTERED?

If you registered online, you will receive e-mail verification.  If you registered via the postal service, you will receive an email from your child’s coach on or after the scheduled coach’s meeting for all Divisions. Please view the CLUB’S CALENDAR for the date of the coach’s meeting and allow 5-6 days after it for your coach to contact you.

You may also log into your Household Member Account in order to verify your child’s registration:

(1) Log into your member account: https://lmvsc.demosphere-secure.com/_dashboard

(2) Once logged into your account, select the My Household Information tab (with the tree) under My Account section, then select View Registration Order History:

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT TEAM MY CHILD IS ON?

LMVSC Player Directors are often working until the day of the coaches meeting to form teams. Your child’s coach will contact you after he or she is given the team roster at the coaches’ meeting.

Additionally, LMVSC uses the Playmetrics platform to keep our families informed of practices and schedules.  Within a few days of the coaches’ meeting, you will receive an automatically-generated email from Playmetrics notifying you of the team on which your player has been placed.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?

Team will be assigned their one practice for the season starting on June 20th.  Games will start on or after June 27th.

HOW MANY PRACTICES IS MY CHILD EXPECTED TO ATTEND?

  • Mini Dribblers, will participate in age specific training sessions on Saturday mornings.
  • Teams will practice one day a week and will generally have one game on the weekend.
  • For the summer recreational season, there will be only one practice (if space allows) prior to the beginning of the season.  Once games starts, there will not be any more practices.

WILL I BE GUARANTEED DAY(S) AND TIMES FOR MY CHILD’S PRACTICE?

LMVSC’s coaches are volunteers. Your child’s coach will determine what day and time works best for their work schedule. We do not guarantee  days and times for your child’s practices.

WHEN WILL I KNOW ABOUT PRACTICE SCHEDULE TIME AND PLACE?

Unfortunately, we have no way to determine practice days and times for a particular team until after the coach’s meeting. Coaches select practice locations and times at the same time as they get their rosters. Fairfax County allocates a limited number of practice gyms  to LMVSC teams, generally in late October.  Although we form teams based on school locations, we don’t necessarily receive every school gym for practice. Our volunteer coaches usually sign up for the closest gym available that meets with their personal work schedules, based on the list of available locations they receive at the Coach’s meeting. Please know that we try very hard to make it as convenient to parents as we possibly can by matching players with a coach who is located in the same area.

Insofar as the summer recreational season is concerned, there will be only one practice as space allows prior to the beginning of the season.  Once games start, there will not be any more practices.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO PLAY BASKETBALL?

  • Uniform – the league provides a reversible jersey and shorts,  The jersey and shorts must be returned at the end of the season.  A payment of $30 for lost jerseys.
  • Non black bottom tennis shoes
  • Basketball

WHEN ARE GAMES USUALLY PLAYED?

Games are usually played on Saturday.

For the summer recreational season, games will be played on weeknights.  We hope to limit the number of games played on Mondays.

WILL THERE EVER BE GAMES SCHEDULED ON SUNDAYS?

There typically will be games scheduled on Sunday if your child’s age group division has an odd number of teams. Based on gym allocations received from the County and the number of teams to schedule, your child’s team may play on one or two Sundays. Also, if games are cancelled due to inclement weather, LMVSC may re-schedule games on Sunday.

For the summer recreational season, there will be no weekend games.

HOW DO I KNOW IF A GAME IS CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER?

Check the LMVSC Homepage for Field/Gym Closures.  Closures are also announced on the LMVSC Basketball FB Page and the LMVSC Basketball Twitter Page.  Additionally, you will receive an Playmetrics system-generated email informing you of the cancellation.

HOW DO I GET A REFUND?

Refunds are provided only if your child could not be placed on a team. If your child is injured or is suffering from a long-term illness prior to the beginning of the season, please contact LMVSC’s Executive Director, Lula Bauer, at director@lmvsc.org for any questions regarding refunds.
