HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR RECREATIONAL BASKETBALL?

Online registration – Click here.

Attention: New Registration Platform for our Basketball Programs!

When registering your player for recreational basketball, please note that this platform differs from our previous registration databases. Below are some helpful tips on using our new registration site:

 (1) After selecting the “Register Here” button, please select the “Member Login” tab under the LMVSC logo.

 (2) When creating a member login for the first time, be sure that your password contains an Upper Case letter, a lower case letter, a number and a special character. Please be sure that your password is eight characters in length.

 (3) Continue following the instructions on registering yourself and your children into the registration system.

 (4)  Registration for summer recreational basketball will be based on the player’s grade during the 2017-18 school year.

(5)  You will be able to pay by check, credit card or electronic check.  If you are applying or a scholarship, please indicate that you are paying by check and please forward all necessary documents to Jessie Gore at admin@lmvsc.org.  She will adjust your balance and you will then be able to pay the reduced fee online.

Should you have any questions about this or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to Jessie Gore, admin@lmvsc.org.

DO I NEED TO REGISTER EARLY?

Yes. Registering early provides a better chance for placement close to home.  Additionally, with regard to summer recreational basketball, we are limiting each division to six teams, so only the first sixty registrations will be accepted for each division.

DOES LMVSC OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?

Yes. In order to qualify for a scholarship, you must send in a copy of either the FCPS Free or Reduced Lunch Letter or a Medicaid Card – both items must have your child’s name on it. These items are good for an entire school year and can either be mailed to our club’s mailing address (P.O. Box 10202, Alexandria, VA 22310) or a scanned copy can be sent to our Club’s Administrator, Jessie Gore, at admin@lmvsc.org.

Players approved for sholarship shall pay a reduced registration fee of:

Divisions Fee
Mini Dribblers (U5-U6) $25.00
Division D Grades 1 & 2 $40.00
Division C Grades 3 & 4 $40.00
Division B Grades 5 & 6 $40.00
Division A Grades 7 & 8 $40.00
Division AA Grades 9 & 10 $40.00
Division AA Grades 11 & 12 $40.00

More than one child shall pay $10.00 plus $5.50 County Fees per additional child per family.

Please note that there are no mini-dribblers nor high school divisions during the summer recreation season.

WHICH DIVISIONS ARE CO-ED?

D1 1st Grade and D2 2nd Grade.  In the summer recreation season, if we do not get enough registrations in a particular division, we reserve the right to combine the boys and girls divisions.

HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE TO START PLAYING BASKETBALL?

For LMVSC’s youngest division, Mini Dribblers, your child must be 5 years old on or prior to the start of the season.  There is no Mini Dribblers in the summer season.

Instead, for the summer recreational season, players who attended kindergarten during the 2017-18 school year may register for the D Division.  This does NOT apply for the winter recreational season.

ARE CHILDREN PLACED ON A TEAM BASED ON THEIR AGE OR GRADE?

Players are placed on teams based on grade for 1st grade through 12th. Players who are older (e.g., have been held back in school one or more years) may, with prior approval from the league, play in the division appropriate for their age. Such requests must be made separately in writing by e-mail (mcgavindob@lmvsc.org) or letter (LMVSC, P.O. Box 10202, Alexandria, VA 22310). No other exceptions will be made.

SPECIAL REQUEST - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

You are permitted to request a classmate or a neighborhood friend to be placed on the same team as your child . You may also request a Coach if that Coach is in you neighborhood or his/her child attends the same school as your child. Although all requests are taken into consideration, our club cannot guarantee that they will be honored.

WHAT IF MY CHILD ATTENDS A DIFFERENT SCHOOL?

If your child attends a private school or a special program at a public school that is not the closest one, simply indicate the local elementary school or private school you want us to use for placement.

HOW DO I VERIFY THAT MY CHILD IS REGISTERED?

If you registered online, you will receive e-mail verification.  If you registered via the postal service, you will receive an email from your child’s coach on or after the scheduled coach’s meeting for all Divisions. Please view the CLUB’S CALENDAR for the date of the coach’s meeting and allow 5-6 days after it for your coach to contact you.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT TEAM MY CHILD IS ON?

LMVSC Player Directors are often working until the day of the coaches meeting to form teams. Your child’s coach will contact you after he or she is given the team roster at the coaches’ meeting.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?

HOW MANY PRACTICES IS MY CHILD EXPECTED TO ATTEND?

  • Mini Dribblers, will participate in age specific training sessions on Saturday mornings.
  • All other grades will practice two days a week until the games begin January 6th, 2018.  Once games begin, teams will practice one day a week and will generally have one game on the weekend.
  • For the summer recreational season, there will be only one practice (if space allows) prior to the beginning of the season.  Once games starts, there will not be any more practices.

WILL I BE GUARANTEED DAY(S) AND TIMES FOR MY CHILD’S PRACTICE?

LMVSC’s coaches are volunteers. Your child’s coach will determine what day and time works best for their work schedule. We do not guarantee  days and times for your child’s practices.

WHEN WILL I KNOW ABOUT PRACTICE SCHEDULE TIME AND PLACE?

Unfortunately, we have no way to determine practice days and times for a particular team until after the coach’s meeting. Coaches select practice locations and times at the same time as they get their rosters. Fairfax County allocates a limited number of practice gyms  to LMVSC teams, generally in late October.  Although we form teams based on school locations, we don’t necessarily receive every school gym for practice. Our volunteer coaches usually sign up for the closest gym available that meets with their personal work schedules, based on the list of available locations they receive at the Coach’s meeting. Please know that we try very hard to make it as convenient to parents as we possibly can by matching players with a coach who is located in the same area.

Insofar as the summer recreational season is concerned, there will be only one practice as space allows prior to the beginning of the season.  Once games start, there will not be any more practices.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY CHILD NEED TO PLAY BASKETBALL?

  • Uniform – the league provides a jersey,  The jersey must be returned at the end of the season.
  • Non black bottom tennis shoes
  • Basketball

WHEN ARE GAMES USUALLY PLAYED?

Games are usually played on Saturday.

For the summer recreational season, games will be played on weeknights.  We hope to limit the number of games played on Mondays.

WILL THERE EVER BE GAMES SCHEDULED ON SUNDAYS?

There typically will be games scheduled on Sunday if your child’s age group division has an odd number of teams. Based on gym allocations received from the County and the number of teams to schedule, your child’s team may play on one or two Sundays. Also, if games are cancelled due to inclement weather, LMVSC may re-schedule games on Sunday.

For the summer recreational season, there will be no weekend games.

HOW DO I KNOW IF A GAME IS CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER?

If any games are cancelled, your coach will contact you. If your coach hasn’t contaced you, you should call the LMVSC hotline… 703-799-1112, or check the LMVSC Homepage for Field/Gym Closures.

HOW DO I GET A REFUND?

Refunds are provided only if your child could not be placed on a team. If your child is injured or is suffering from a long-term illness prior to the beginning of the season, please contact LMVSC’s Executive Director, Lula Bauer, at director@lmvsc.org for any questions regarding refunds.
