Jon Norem, Director of Travel
Jon Norem, Director of Travel. Jon has over 18 years of experience in coaching youth, high school and U-23s in the DMV. Jon has coached at several local youth clubs, as well as the DC United Youth Academy, where he was the U12/U13 Head Coach and assisting with the U23 team. Jon is entering his 10th season as the head coach for Bishop Ireton’s Boys Varsity Program, where he has earned 2 WCAC Coach of the Year Awards. Coach Jon holds his USSF “A” License, USC Advanced National, National GK and National Youth Diploma. As youth player, Jon played for Pete Johnson (VYSA Hall of Fame Coach), both for club and at Bishop Ireton HS. During this time, he had the opportunity to travel internationally, playing in Europe, South America and Asia. Jon was a 4-year starter at Shenandoah University and earned a degree in Business Administration, with a minor in Marketing & Accounting.
Julian Lee Chang, Director of Technical Development
Julian Lee Chang, Director of Technical Development. Lee has his USSF “B” License, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma with a Distinguished Pass, USSF National Youth License, NSCAA State Goalkeeping Diploma. He played NCAA Division 1 Soccer for Eastern Illinois University and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and then for the USL Northern Virginia Royals and the Queen’s Park Semi-Pro team in Trinidad.
In 2018, Lee led his 06 Boys team to the VYSA State Cup Championship. Two teams Lee coached were ranked #1 and #4 in the State of Virginia as well as being highly ranked nationally. Throughout his 18 years of coaching experience, Chang has served as a State ODP Instructor, Technical Director, College Assistant Coach, and a Coaching Education Instructor
Chang stated, “I am very excited to be part of the team at LMVSC. There is a terrific staff already in place, and with the addition of a few more extremely talented player developers, there are surely great things in store for the future. The LMVSC community has such a diverse array of talented young players, embedded within a strong soccer culture, an increasingly progressive, like-minded staff that prioritizes player development above all else so I am thrilled to contribute my part in the collective effort of taking this club to the next level”.
Sam Okpodu, Director of Coaching U14 – U19
With over 30 years of experience, Sam Okpodu began his career with the Nigerian National Team. During that time, he was able to train and play in Brazil, Spain, and England. He earned his UEFA “A” Coaching License while in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He received his USSF “B” license and the NSCAA Advanced National Coaching Diploma. He is the Atlantic Coast Conference’s all-time leading scorer with 193 points and was named three times first-team All-American. Sam also played as a starter for the Orlando Lions Professional Soccer Team. Served as a Head Coach in youth soccer while in North Carolina then went on to start the women’s soccer program at Virginia Tech. He led the Nigerian Women’s National Team to win the African Women’s Championship qualifying them to play in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. He later served as the Men’s Head Soccer Coach at Newberry College and was the Executive Director of the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association. Sam coached the South Carolina ODP U14 Boys team and lead them to a regional championship. Sam has a vast knowledge of the college recruiting process as a former college coach.
Fabien Lewis, Director of Coaching U9 -U13
While playing youth soccer Fabien Lewis’ U-17 team in Trinidad and Tobago were FIFA Youth World Cup Qualifiers. In 2002 the team held the honor of becoming Olympic Soccer qualifiers. Fabien went on to study and play at George Mason University. His soccer career didn’t end there though. Throughout his 15 years of playing experience, he played professionally in the Philippines, Singapore, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, and the United States.
At the age of 28, while still playing professionally, Lewis was already gravitating toward coaching. While playing, he had successfully obtained several coaching licenses from US Soccer, currently holding his USSF “B”, USSF National Youth License and a USC/NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma. During his career, Fabien has served as the Head Coach & Coaching Education Instructor with the VYSA Olympic Development Program, as well as Head Coach of the Kaya Futbol Club of the Philippines Football League.
Fabien’s love for the game inspires those around him. His effective communication and leadership skills will allow our players to develop to their highest potential, both on and off the field. Fabien has been coaching in the youth game for a number of years and connects well with players at every level. His meticulous planning, energetic character and coaching style will help lead LMVSC to build a solid foundation from our youngest age groups. He continues to improve his skills and soccer knowledge while currently working towards receiving his “A” License.
Vincent Vergamini, Director of Player Development
The LMVSC technical staff is thrilled to have Vince on board, as he comes with an impressive coaching background. Coach Vince is currently finishing his USSF National “A” License, 2018. Coach Vince currently holds his USSF National “B” Coaching License and has a Director of Coaching Certificate from United Soccer Coaches formally NSCAA, along with multiple other professional certifications. Prior to LMVSC, Coach Vincent served as the U11-U15 Director of Girls for the Chantilly Youth Association.
