TRAVEL TRYOUT DATES

See below for the tryout schedule. Your player is not required to attend all sessions, but is encouraged to attend as many as possible. No player can be placed unless he or she has completed our Open Gym/Tryout registration and has attended a tryout. If your player is unable to attend tryouts, please contact me to see if we can make alternative arrangements.

Your player may try out for any team for which he or she is eligible. Players are permitted to play “up” in travel. This means 4th graders can try out for 5th, 5th graders can try out for 6th, etc. Your player can try out for multiple teams if he or she is eligible. Please note that your registration for the Open Gym sessions will also serve as a registration for tryouts. No need to register again.

Additional tryout sessions will be added on an as-needed basis. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Annemarie McGavin at mcgavindob@lmvsc.org.

Who is Eligible to Try Out?

Grade Requirement

Each winter season, LMVSC sponsors boys and girls teams to participate in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL).  FCYBL runs boys divisions and  girls divisions for grade-based teams.  For 2019-20, we will be sponsoring teams in the following divisions:

  • Boys in 8th Grade.
  • Boys and Girls in 5th through 7th Grade.

Players can try out for multiple teams within LMVSC, however they are only eligible to play on teams that correspond to their grade or higher.  For example, 5th and 6th grade boys can try out for the 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams.  7th grade boys can try out for the 7th and 8th grade boys teams.  8th graders can try out only for 8th grade teams.

If your player makes a team, you will be required to provide a copy of your player’s report card from an approved public or private school.  Players enrolled in FCPS can instead provide a copy of the player’s SIS page.  Special verification requirements apply to home-schooled players.

Age Requirement

  • No player on any 5th grade team can be 12 years old on September 1st of that year.
  • No player on any 6th grade team can be 13 years old on September 1st of that year.
  • No player on any 7th grade team can be 14 years old on September 1st of that year.
  • No player on any 8th grade team can be 15 years old on September 1st of that year.

Your player may be required to submit proof of age.

Residency Requirement

All players must be residents of Fairfax County, although some exceptions exist for players who reside in the City of Alexandria.
