Congratulations to José “Victor” Benitez of the LMVSC Patriots 2006 Boys White, our LMVSC Travel Player of the Week.

José, playing with Coach Andrew Peck and the 2006 Boys White in a NCSL League match against Olney Rangers White at Edison High School Lower Field, scored two world-class goals to secure his team’s 2-0 victory.

With the score at nil a piece, José picked up the ball around the left flank of the middle third and dribbled past the first defender he encountered, and then started gunning towards the goal.  Out of the corner of his eye, using his expert peripheral vision, he observed a second defender closing him down. From about 35 yards out, he decided to have a crack at goal. He then preps the ball to his right and struck the ball thunderously at the opponents’ goal.  The ball then sailed through the air into the top right corner of the far post.

On his second goal, José received the ball at the top of the box, turned to his right against an oncoming defender, and with his favored right foot drilled the ball into the roof of the net.  It was near identical placement as his first goal, which was struck 20 yards further down the field.

According to Coach Andrew, “José works hard in training and he and he leads his team by example.  Both goals showed a tremendous amount of awareness and skill.”

The victory puts his team in a good position to go into their final game against PWSI 2006 Pride.  PWSI is in second place in their division, while our boys are in fourth. A victory over PWSI will push them ahead of their opponents in the standings and secure the 2006 Boys White promotion into NCSL Division 2.

Keep up the good work José, and good luck 2006 Boys White this weekend!
