Congratulations to Coach Ben Kamara and LMVSC Patriots 2009 Boys Red, our LMVSC travel team of the week.
LMVSC Patriots 2009 Boys Red fell short in the Championship match of the 2019 NVSC Fall Classic, but put on a wonderful display of great soccer, and showed tremendous improvement from the beginning of the season.
Even though the 2009 Boys Red lost their first match against Herndon Atletico by a score of 2-1, they were able to demonstrate strong determination to claw their way back into a position to get to the championship match.
In their second game, they played FC Frederick and won 5-2. The boys started this match with confidence, completely dominating play. The boys were moving the ball all around the pitch, displaying versatility in their play, as the goals came from all different areas and angles. There was expert combination play, dangerous attacking on the flanks, and confident 1v1 dribbling in the box. Andrew Castelyn led the team in goals as the hattrick hero.
In their third match against Virginia Revolution SC, the boys were able to come away with a 4-2 victory. After the momentum and confidence built from the previous match, the boys came out on Sunday morning against VRSC as if running downhill. They completely outplay their opponents in the first half, with the score being 3-0 in favor of the Patriots going into halftime.
They created a lot of opportunities thru a possession-based approach, combined with their eagerness to take players on 1v1 in and around their opponent’s 18-yard box. The defensive efforts were stalwart in their doggedness and anticipation to end opposition attacks and help generate offense.
The second half saw VRSC ascending in their play to make the game a much tighter encounter, as their players began to play a more direct, and physical style of play that relied heavily on counterattacking speed.
This match displayed a true team effort, with both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game showing a cohesiveness and collective understanding. Andrew Castelyn delivered the brace (2 goals). The remaining goals coming from Pedro Montoya, and Yadael Mesfin.
In the final match, the boys displayed the same qualities from the previous game, as they continued with a dominant performance. They were able to maintain possession, and create many chances, but were unsuccessful in finding the net. In the end, they would lose to the same VRSC team that they played in their final group match.
According to Coach Ben Kamara, “The boys showed a lot of growth and maturity throughout the weekend in the way that they would read the game and supported each other both offensively and defensively. They also showed a lot of passion for the game, and commitment to their teammates. I am very proud of their efforts.”
