Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club Appoints Accomplished Coach
Bob Bigney as the Director of Recreational Soccer
Alexandria, VA (April 11, 2023): The Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club (LMVSC) is honored to appoint Mr. Bob Bigney as the Director of Recreational Soccer overseeing a program of nearly 1,700 players. He is an outstanding coach with an impeccable career at the collegiate and youth levels.
His coaching career began in 1984 as an assistant for the men’s soccer program at the University of Richmond. From 1986 to 1995, Bigney served as a head coach for three collegiate programs. First, he served as the men’s and women’s coach at LeGrange College (1986 to 1988). Bigney then went on to serve as the men’s coach at North Carolina Wesleyan (1988 to 1991) and then Davis and Elkins College (1991 to 1995).
“After speaking with the LMVSC Executive Director, (Lula Bauer), President, (John Salamone), and Technical Director, (Fabien Lewis), I was impressed with the investment they are making for the kids in their club. I am attracted to the diversity within the Club and their dedication to providing quality programs for the community. Lee Mount Vernon Sports Club is growing and looking toward the future. That’s something I wanted to be a part of. I see some really good things happening with the LMVSC and am happy to be helping with programs and services for the LMVSC community,” said Bob Bigney.
Bigney entered the youth soccer ranks in 1996 and has served in several director-level roles with clubs in Virginia, Oregon, New Mexico, and Texas. Most recently, Bigney spent the past four years as the Director of Youth Soccer with El Paso Locomotive FC in Texas. Prior to that he was the Technical Director for the New Mexico Youth Soccer Association (2015 to 2018), the Director of Coaching Education with the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (2014 to 2015), the Technical Director at Arlington Soccer Association (2007 to 2014), the Director of Coaching with the New Mexico Youth Soccer Association (1999-2003), and the Director of Coaching for Beach FC Youth Soccer Club (1996 to 1998).
“I am beyond excited Bob will be joining our LMVSC family. I have always admired and respected his dedication to the game. The programs he created to enhance player development while incorporating life-lessons and memorable experiences have been nationally recognized and honored,” stated LMVSC Executive Director, Lula Bauer.
Bigney is a highly decorated coach who earned three licenses from the USSF (National A, National Youth, and National Grassroots Instructors). In addition, he holds a United Soccer Coaches Premier Coaching Diploma. Bigney earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Richmond and conducted post-graduate coursework in Elementary Education at New Mexico State. He also received a teaching certificate from the Virginia and New Mexico Departments of Education.
